Ecstasy Drug Charges

Drug Crimes: Ecstasy Charges

Ecstasy Is a Schedule I Narcotic Drug

MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, is a synthetic psychoactive narcotic with stimulant properties. It is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance and penalties for conviction can be harsh.

If you have been charged with a drug crime involving Ecstasy, you should speak with an experienced Corona drug crime lawyer at Hanson, Gorian, Bradford & Hanich prior to talking with law enforcement about your case. With our help, you may be able to avoid incarceration and keep your record free from a criminal conviction.

Drug Crime Penalties for Ecstasy

There are many drug charges concerning Ecstasy, including possession, possession for sale, manufacturing, distributing or trafficking. Most drug offenses can be grouped into three categories, however: simple possession, possession for sale and sale.

Possession cases as well as meth possession cases are called "wobblers" because they can be charged as either a misdemeanor (jail for up to one year) or a felony (state prison from 16 months to 3 years). Drug diversion programs are sometimes applicable and the charges dismissed altogether after successful completion. We have effectively negotiated our clients' cases down to possession many times and are eager to meet with you to evaluate whether your case warrants reduced charges or even an outright dismissal.

The maximum sentence for a conviction of felony possession, intent to sell Ecstasy is three years in prison. The sale of Ecstasy is also a felony charge that carries with it a punishment of up to four years in prison. In sales cases, drugs have allegedly been sold to (typically) an undercover police officer whose testimony at trial becomes crucial.

In order to defend against this charge, you require an attorney who has enough trial experience to effectively cross-examine the officer and point out the flaws in the prosecution's case. We have the extensive criminal law trial experience and knowledge of drug laws that you need and believe that hiring us is the first step towards your success in the courtroom.
